Qulitmaker's 100 Blocks Vol. #14

If you are visiting from Quiltmaker's website, welcome! I'm glad you've stopped by my little neighborhood. If you are new to my site you can read a little more about me here. I am super excited to have a block in this issue. It's my first time! You'll find my block on page 50, #1377.

A few months ago I submitted this block to Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazine. I'd been thinking of designing a block to be the representative, you might say, for my website/blog. (when you arrived at my site, I'm sure you saw it in the top left corner!

Pretty simple little design. After I settled on it, it seemed a good idea to go ahead and send off to Quiltmaker. They suggested you also design a quilt from the block, or show different ways to possibly use the block in a quilt. I came up with a few possibilities.

Ok, but not what I had in mind.

Definitely bright, but too plain.

Too busy. I finally settled on a design. It's a little different than the ones shown. I made the quilt and it will be in their Quilts from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazine that comes out next spring. Watch for it. In the meantime, here is a little sneak peek....

It's a very happy and quick quilt. I had a bit of trouble though -- I ran out of the black background fabric. I pieced and pieced my scraps until I had enough. Yes, that is a tiny pieced section of a 3" triangle. I think I had about three little crumbs left.

I bet some of you have done that before, right? Surely I'm not the only one :)

The quilt went together really fast. It was perfect for chain piecing.

If you'd like to see more fun blocks from the Quiltmaker 100 Volume 14 magazine, link back to the Quiltmaker Quilty Pleasures blog. There are links to other designer blogs to show you what they've created with the blocks. I'll draw a name by November 21st, and your copy will be on its way!

...and if you decide to make a quilt from my block, I'd love to see it! Send me a picture.
