Some of you know that in addition to quilting, my other hobbies include a little wood working. My first project was our king sized bed in 2016, shown in our former home.
Later I built a few trays, a work bench, an outdoor table, and a desk top to go over file cabinets.
I enjoy woodworking about as much as quilting, but it is harder on the body for sure. At least this old body. Recently I had in mind to build a faux printmaker's cabinet. I was looking for something to go under out TV in our living room. I found the plan online, a Ana White plan, although old (2012), and thought surely I could make it. I definitely over estimated my abilities, which is something I tend to do. Anyway, it is finished, with a lot of shims and adjustments but done.
It has only three drawers across the top. But is made to look like lots of drawers.
The bottom section is three doors. I found the hardware online and made tea stained labels to fit inside. Kind of randomly picked the numbering scheme. Makes them look like an old card catalog.
Below shows the inspiration piece from Restoration Hardware that sells for about $1600.
I actually like my version better and especially because I only spent about $250 on it.
I also made the simple picture ledges for our bedroom. I like that I can change out the photos and not have to make new holes in the wall.
So there you have it. Quilting is a big hobby for me, but I like to diversify. Woodworking, cooking, running, and chalk painting, are also hobbies. For me, I really do personify the phrase "more hobbies than time." What hobbies do you have in addition to quilting?
